Getting the words without a tool
- Instagram can show auto-generated captions on many reels. Turn them on in your settings under Accessibility, then play the reel.
- They appear a line at a time while the reel plays. There is no button to copy them as one block of text, so you pause and type.
- They are not on every reel, and they are weaker on Hindi, Gujarati and Punjabi and on speech that switches language mid-sentence.

Is this Instagram transcript generator really free?

Do I need to sign up?
No. Paste a link and read the transcript. An account is free and adds the Latin-script reading of the reel you just read, a page that keeps it, and the hook and CTA breakdown and translation on the reels you track, but the transcript itself never needs one.
What does word for word mean here?
It is a transcript of the audio, not the caption and not a summary. Instagram captions are written after the fact and often say something different from what the person said on camera, which is why we read the audio.
Can it read a private reel?
No. Only public reels and posts can be read, by us or by anybody who is not following that account. A private link will come back as an error rather than a partial result.
What about a reel with no talking?
A reel that is only music or text on screen has no speech to transcribe, so it comes back empty. The tool reads what is said out loud and does not read text burned into the video.
Is it legal to transcribe someone else's reel?
Reading a public post is what any viewer does. A transcript is a record of what was said in it, and it gives you no licence to the video itself, so treat the words as research rather than as something to republish.
Does it work on Hindi, Gujarati and Punjabi reels?
Yes, and that is the part most tools get wrong. The language is detected from the audio rather than from the caption or a dropdown, so a reel that switches between Hinglish and English mid-sentence still comes back as one readable transcript.
Do you store the video?
No. The audio is read once to produce the transcript and is not kept. What is stored is the text, so the next person who pastes the same reel gets an answer without us fetching it again.
Can I get a transcript of my own reel?
Yes, the same way, as long as the account is public. Creators use this on their own back catalogue to see which hooks they have already used before writing the next one.
How is this different from Instagram's own captions?
Auto-captions are per-line and disappear with the video, and they are weaker on Indian languages and on code-switching. This gives you the whole script as one block of text you can copy, alongside a Latin-script reading if you make an account.
